Julia Weiss Hoffman (1915-2013)
Julia Weiss Hoffman, (The Accordion Lady/Mrs. Claus), 98, of Berlin, went home to have eternal life with the Lord on July 2, 2013 at Meadowview Nursing Center, Berlin. Born April 7, 1915 in New York City, N.Y., the daughter of Louis and Pauline (Rapaport) Weiss. Preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul Junior Hoffman, who died Aug. 9, 2011; daughter, Deborah L. Hoffman; and granddaughter, Jennifer Spory; brother, Norman Weiss; and sisters: Sylvia and Rose Weiss. Survived by daughters: Cheryl Gohn and husband Thomas of Listie; Paula Hoffman and special friend Vernon Golembesky of Boswell; grandchildren: Christine Hatfield of Rockwood; Timothy Spory of Stoystown; Daniel Forney Jr. and Tammy Forney both of Boswell; Richard Gohn of Salix; Melissa Rock of Bakersville; Jessica Forney of Boswell; step-grandchildren: Mary Ann Tatar of Windber; Tammy Mize of Somerset; Tiffany Golembesky of Boswell and numerous great-grandchildren; sister, Isabelle Friedman and husband Wallace of Monroeville. The Weiss family owned and operated Modern Dye Works, a dry cleaning company during the 1930s in Somerset. Julia was a proud born again Christian-Jew. Member of Berachah Bible Baptist Church. She volunteered for the Salvation Army, Easter Seals and different veteran organizations to which she received numerous awards. She enjoyed playing her accordion at nursing homes, writing and singing hymns, sitting at local stores and restaurants watching people and spending time with family and friends. Julia touched the lives of all she came in touch with. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home, Somerset where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Barry K.
