George Elwood Mardis, 73, of Berlin, died February 6, 2016 surrounded by his family at Somerset Hospice House. Born September 1, 1942, he is the son of Roy and Marion Gertrude (Miller) Mardis. Preceded in death by his parents, son Keith Mardis, brothers: Wesley and Lee Mardis, sisters: Naomi Mardis and Lois Womer, and step granddaughter Treena Burkett Roddy. Survived by wife the former Marsha Darlene Heck to whom he was married 50 years, children: Kurt Mardis married to the former Rhonda Ohler of Friedens, Shane Mardis married to the former Lisa Martin of Morgantown, Maria Burkett and husband Richard of Friedens and Naomi Segafredo and husband DeWayne of Zelienople, grandchildren: Chase, Mia and Tate, step grandchildren: Richard S. Burkett and wife Melissa of Friedens, and Sydney Deusenberry of Anchorage, and step great granddaughter Rylee Burkett; also survived by sisters: Judy Luttig of Pittsburgh, Mona Berkey of Somerset, and Rebecca St. Clair and husband Thomas of Boswell. George is a 1961 graduate of Somerset High School, a US Navy Seabees Veteran, he worked until his retirement as a corrections officer for the PA Department of Corrections, he was a member of Lodge 358 F&AM, Seventh Day Adventist Church in Johnstown, and a lifetime member of the NRA. Friends received 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Somerset where a service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday with Pastor Gerald Small officiating.
