Lillian Lloyd Obituary

Lillian M. Lloyd, 95, of Somerset, died on February 27, 2018, at Hope Hospice, Bonita Springs, FL.  Born October 31, 1922, in Milford Township, she was the daughter of Harry B. and Margaret (Hay) Saler. Lillian was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 60 years, W. Robert Lloyd, in 2006; her brothers, Bruce, Carl, Harold, and Merle Saler; her sisters, Ferne Saler and Helen (Robert) Walker; and her brother-in-law, Eugene Lloyd.  She is survived by her son, William R. Lloyd, Jr., of Somerset; her sister, Marjorie (Donald) Schlosnagle of Somerset; her sisters-in law, Barbara Saler of Campbell, NY, and Virginia Lloyd of Carlisle; and her 17 nieces and nephews.  Lillian graduated from Somerset High School in 1940 and earned both a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Science degree in Education from Indiana State Teachers’ College (now Indiana University of Pennsylvania).  She retired after almost 36 years as a public school teacher in Somerset Township, Beaver County, Shanksville-Stonycreek, and Somerset Area.  She also taught extension classes for Millersville University.  Lillian was a former member of the Somerset County Library Board, the Board of Directors of the Historical & Genealogical Society of Somerset County, the Somerset County Literacy Council, the Somerset Garden Club, the Somerset Hospital Auxiliary, the Somerset Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary, and the Fortnightly Club.  She was also past president of the Somerset Area Education Association, a life member of the Pennsylvania State Education Association and of the National Education Association, and a member of the Somerset County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees.  Lillian was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Somerset, where she formerly served on the Church Council and as Sunday School Superintendent.  She was also an associate member of Christus Victor Lutheran Church, Naples, FL.  In addition to her other activities, Lillian and her husband toured all 50 states and most of the Canadian provinces. Friends received 10-11 a.m. Saturday March 24, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Somerset, where a service will immediately follow at 11 a.m. with Reverend Linda J. McElroy Thomas officiating.  Interment Somerset County Memorial Park.   In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Lillian’s name to the Somerset County Library 6022 Glades Pike #120 Somerset, PA 15501.
