Phyllis Walker Ruble

Phyllis Marie Walker Ruble, 93, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2016 in Friendswood, Texas. She was born on September 17, 1922, in Edie, Pennsylvania and was the daughter of Gillian Berkley Walker and Viola Speicher Walker. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Robert G. Walker of Somerset, PA. Survived by her brother, Donald E. Walker of Rocky River, OH; four nephews and nieces: Susan Cober of Bernville, PA, Nancy Morrison of Hull, MA., Garth Walker of Houston, TX, and Eric Walker of Fairview Park, OH; six great nephews and nieces: Eric Cober, David Cober, Jeanne Merringer, Jessica Walker, April Walker, and Kayleigh Walker; and one great-great nephew, Ben Cober.  Phyllis grew-up in Rockwood, Pennsylvania. She attended Juniata College where in 1944 she earned a .B.S. in Home Economics. After graduation, Phyllis accepted a position with the USDA as a Food Inspector.  After 40 years of dedicated service, Phyllis retired in Winter Haven, Florida residing at the Spring Lake Towers Condominiums.    After retiring, Phyllis devoted her time to taking care of her mother, Viola Walker, until her mother passed away in 2000.  During their time together, the two became traveling companions and enjoyed traveling throughout the United States. In Winter Haven, Phyllis enjoyed visiting the Donut Man in the mornings or having a Sunday afternoon coffee break. She appreciated a good cup of coffee, plus good conversations with many of her friends. Phyllis also enjoyed the outdoors and was actively involved with the Grounds Beautification committee at her condominium.  Phyllis was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution for 70 years. In addition, Phyllis was affiliated with the First Presbyterian Church of Winter Haven. Friends received from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday, September 24 at Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Somerset, PA where services will immediately follow at 3 p.m. with Pastor Samuel Draper officiating Interment Union Cemetery, Meyersdale, PA. www.haugerzeigler.com
