Robert Doyle Cober, Sr. went to be with God and his partner in life, Mary, on June 20, 2016 at the age of 92. Born February 24, 1924 in Somerset, Robert was a son of the depression, a member of the greatest generation; a husband, a father, a trucker, an entrepreneur, a grandfather, great-grandfather, and a friend. His life revolved around his true love, Mary Isabelle Felker, his partner and companion. They married on November 9, 1943. A WWII Veteran, S/ Sgt. Robert Cober, 386th Bombardment Squadron 312th Bombardment Group of the Army of the United States. He was stationed at the Tachikawa Air Field, Honshu Japan, was in the service 31 months. He served as a turret and sight specialist in the states, in the Philippines and Okinawa, wears WWII Victory Medal, Four Battle Stars and Philippines Liberation Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star, American Campaign Medal and Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, Service Stars, Good Conduct Medal and Sharp Shooter Medal. He was removed to Japan and drove a truck hauling men and supplies after the bombing of Tokyo and Okinawa. Following his war service, Robert was a truck driver and that interest in driving continued throughout the balance of his life. As he neared retirement, he bought his first camper and would go on to wear out two with Mary. They travelled all over the country, from Nova Scotia to Utah. After Mary’s passing in 2001, Robert continued to travel, wearing out another camper traveling each year to Texas for the winter and touring old haunts. Robert was the owner and president of the Cummins diesel shop in Somerset for over 50 years, overcoming many obstacles to make it very successful and respected far beyond the local area. He ended up selling the business to a group of loyal employees. Robert always had a story of how the “little guy” navigated the world. Favorites included his finding a cousin in war torn Okinawa, the post-war trucking industry, and his lifelong search for Benevola His wife, Mary Isabelle Felker Cober, parents, Mary Evalina Shaulis and Frank Edwin Cober, and brothers, Charles Edwin, Harold Shaulis, and Lloyd Franklin, preceded Robert in death. He is survived by sons, Robert Doyle, Jr., wife Barbara and William Dennis, wife Shirley, daughter, Linda Diane, husband Mike Mosley. Grandchildren include Tammy with husband Roger Snuffer, Wendy with husband Wayne Price, Marc, Sean with wife Heather, Aaron with wife Candra, and Scott. Great-grandchildren include Jennifer, Amanda with husband Brett Bittner, Casey, Hunter, Mckenna, Hannah, Ethan, and Madison. Great-great-grandchildren Dylan, Hayden and Austin. Robert’s family wishes to thank Meadow View Nursing Center for their excellent care and compassion over the last year and a half of his life. Friends received 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home & Cremation Services where a service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday with Reverend Ben Mandrick officiating.  Interment Husband Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that gifts in memorial be provided to Faith Lutheran Church, Somerset, or the National Parkinson Foundation.
