Robert Shaulis

Robert E. “Bob” Shaulis, 94 of Bakersville, went to be with his Lord May 21, 2016. Born on the 4th of July, 1921, son of Earl F. and Edna (Petrie) Shaulis. Preceded in death by parents; his loving wife of 53 years, Anna Katherine (Schmidt) Shaulis who died in 2000; brother, Glenn Shaulis, sisters, Virginia Horner and Velma Hoffman and an infant brother. He is survived by his sons, James R. Shaulis and wife, former Kathleen Krise, Carlisle; and Dennis R. Shaulis and wife, former Karen Conley, Oxford, PA; grandson, Cullen J. Shaulis, and granddaughters, Sidney L. Shaulis, and Sarah L. Shaulis; also survived by sister, Kathleen Ash, Somerset. Robert, who was also known affectionately by many as “Uncle Bob,” was the owner of Robert E. Shaulis Lumber Co for over 50 years. He was a US Army veteran of World War II, having served with the Seabees in the Asian Theater of Operations from Sept. 1942 until Jan. 1946. He served as a member of the Somerset Area School Board for 6 years. He was a member of the Somerset County Voter Hall of Fame and Pennsylvania State Voter Hall of Fame. He was a founding member of the Bakersville Volunteer Fire Co. and a member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Bakersville. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Bob was a superior farmer growing amazing vegetables in his “truck patch” on his 200 acre farm every year including the 2015 harvest. He shared his produce with all—especially his zucchini. He was generous with his time and talents. Bob loved his wife, his kids and grandkids, his unofficially adopted kids, his farm, his country and his life. He is now at peace with his loving wife, Anna. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Somerset, where Funeral Service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, the Rev. Dena Gable, officiating. Interment, Bakersville Cemetery. Military graveside rites accorded by the Somerset County Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to Mt.
