Jonas Creed Scheffel

Jonas Creed Scheffel, age 92 , stepped into the loving arms of his savior, Jesus Christ on April 8, 2024 at his home, surrounded by his family. Jonas was born January 18, 1932 to Lee and Annie( Miller) Scheffel near Springs Pa. Preceded in death by his wife of nearly 72 years on March 2, 2023 Ruth Lichty Scheffel, son Nelson, infant daughter, Carolyn Louise, and daughter- in- law Lisa. sisters, Sarah and Vera, and brothers, Alvin, Clarence and David.
Survived by children Lois Pletcher, Linda (James)Galico, Kenneth(Shannon) , Dennis(Debbie), daughter- in- law Lori, Loretta(Brett)Lindstrom, and Karen Lorraine(Mark) Barron. Grandchildren, Lisa, Greg, Ben, Brandan, Jessi, Dan, Jaden, Mady, Carson, Sharayah, Hannah, Cayton, Jeremy, Kyle, Laurie and Leah, as well as 25 great grandchildren.
Also survived by siblings, Catherine, John and Paul. And numerous nephews and nieces.
Jonas was a 56 year member of the Somerset Alliance church where he served as an elder, served on the church board , adult Sunday school teacher for many years , and served as the chairman of the building committee when they built the church in 1979.
His greatest accomplishment on this earth was teaching his children to Love Jesus and to always keep Him first in their lives, and also teaching them how to love their spouses by showing us how much he loved mom.
Jonas was a long time dairy farmer, before opening Scheffel Equipment and serving as the John Deere dealership from 1989-2010.
We are thankful to have had the privilege to care for dad in his home. We cherished the evenings we could spend one on one time with him. We would also like to thank the home health workers, and Hospice workers who have supported us for the past several years for both of our parents. Your Care and compassion has been a blessing.
Friends and family will be received from 3-8 p.m. Thursday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home & Cremation Services, and from 1-2 p.m Friday at the Somerset Alliance Church where a service will immediately follow at 2 p.m, with Reverends Scott Ream and Donald Robson officiating. Interment Husband Cemetery.
