Dan Boyer

Dan Boyer passed away on February 2, 2018. He was 47. Dan Boyer was born on February 18, 1970 to Edward and Betty Jane (Kelly) Boyer of Somerset, PA. After receiving his high school education in Pennsylvania, he graduated from Lebanon Valley College near Harrisburg, PA and pursued a career in teaching. Dan spent his entire teaching career in Calvert County, Md., beginning in 1992. He taught at Southern Middle School, Patuxent High School, and finally at Huntingtown High School (HHS), where he had started in 2004. He was a full-time choral teacher but also the music director for many musical productions and student stage productions. He was the HHS Teacher of the Year in 2017. Dan performed professionally as a tenor with Concert Artists of Baltimore since 1992; he also sang with the Baltimore Symphony Chorus until it was disbanded in 2002. Last year, Dan added Calvert County Festival Assistant to his tasks, organizing the Calvert County All County events, the Solo & Ensemble Festivals, as well as the Band, Chorus and Orchestra festivals. Dan was active on the Maryland Choral Educators Association Board and served as president from 2002 to 2004. On a regional level, he managed the All Eastern Chorus in 2005 and the All Eastern Ensembles in 2011. Dan was also the recipient of the 2010 Maryland Music Educator’s Award for Excellence for Music Teaching. In addition to his parents, Dan is survived by brother Mike and wife Katie, sister Paula Vinzani and husband Gabe, nephews Matthew and Benny, niece Kaleigh, his much loved dog Misha, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Also survived by special friends Kyle Roberts, Steve & Joanne Gallos and many other friends, godchildren and neighbors. Preceded in death by sister, Dawn Michelle (1976) and nephew Todd Boyer (2016), grandparents and several aunts and uncles. A visitation will be held at Lasting Tributes 814 Bestgate Rd. Annapolis, MD on Wednesday from 3pm to 7pm. A Celebration of Life will be held at Huntingtown High School 4125 N. Solomons Island Road, Huntingtown, Maryland 20639 on Thursday from 6-8 pm. Friends will also be received 2-4 and 6-8 pm Saturday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Somerset and one hour prior to the service at the church which will be conducted at 2 pm Sunday at First United Methodist Church, Somerset.  Burial will be in Weller Cemetery in Somerset, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Huntingtown High School, Music Department, Dan Boyer Scholarship Fund, 4125 N. Solomons Island Road, Huntingtown, MD 20639.
