Dean Bowman Obituary

Dean Austin Bowman, 85, of Somerset, died November 5, 2019 at his home. Born March 24, 1934 in Somerset, he is the son of Walter Millard Bowman and Harriet Blare (Langille-Dickey) Bowman-Ankeny. Preceded in death by his parents, wife the former Mary Ann Jackson who died December 1, 2009, sisters and brothers: Pauline M. Lenhart, Richard J. Bowman, Dorothy E. Moore, and Ronald D. Bowman. Survived by his daughters; Rebecca Bowman-Rivas and husband Mario of Columbia, MD, and Sarah A. Bowman and partner Alena Sharp of Chandler, AZ, also sister Ruby J. Kelly-Pugh of Conneaut, OH. Dean was a 1952 graduate of Somerset High School, a 1956 graduate of California State, received his M.ed from IUP in 1965 and graduated from Duquesne Law in 1970. He was a US Army Veteran of the Korean era, and later served in the PA National Guard. He taught history, geography and social sciences, for Somerset Area Schools where he also coached basketball, and football and was one of the coaches of the "Undefeated Team" , later he had a private law practice from 1970-1996 and following that he worked as in house counsel for Riggs Industries. Dean was a founding member of St. Francis in the Fields Episcopal Church where he was on the vestry. He was a a 45 year Steeler's season ticket holder, and was an avid sports fan and golfer. Friends received 2-5 pm. Sunday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Somerset, a service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Francis in the Fields Episcopal Church, Somerset with the Reverend William Carpenter officiating.
