Dwain Hauger Obituary

Dwain Elvin Hauger, 88, of Palmyra formerly of Somerset, passed away peacefully at home on  Sunday, March 18, 2018.  Born on August 2, 1929, in Somerset, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Elvin and Bertha (Rock) Hauger. Dwain was a 1947 graduate of Somerset High School and entered the US Navy upon graduation. He served aboard the USS Newport News during the Korean War.  He talked of seeing many parts of the world, but France was one of his favorite ports of call.  After his military service, he began a long career in the logging industry initially being a partner in the ownership of an independent saw mill, later working for Matowski  & Fullem, and Kerns Brothers.  He worked alongside his brother, Hilton "Sonny" Hauger the majority of his lumberjacking career.  He was skilled with a chainsaw and took pride in operating his own skidder. Dwain was a member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Bakersville, the American Legion and volunteered for many years at the church and the New Centerville Farmers & Threshermen’s Jubilee.  He was also an avid hunter and fisherman.  Dwain enjoyed playing games with his family, watching Wheel of Fortune, and country music. He will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 59 years, Arlene (Cornell) Hauger, his two daughters Cheri Yohe and Diana Perry, his sons-in-law Timothy Yohe and Wayne Perry, and his grandchildren Alexander and McKenna Yohe, and his brother Hilton "Sonny" Hauger and his wife Esther.  He will be forever remembered for his quiet soft spoken manner, willingness to help anyone who needed it and the love he had for his family. Friends received 10-12 noon Thursday at the Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, Somerset, where a service will follow at 12 noon, with Reverend Dena Gable officiating. Interment Bakersville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Zion Lutheran Church. 3093  Glades Pike, Somerset, PA 15501.  Arrangements by the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Somerset. www.haugerzeigler.com
