Edna Mognet Obituary

Edna Grace (Robinette) Mognet, 96, of Fairview formerly of Somerset and Berlin, died March 22, 2019 at Fairview Manor in Fairview, Pennsylvania. Born in 1922 in Edie, the daughter of Arnold and Matilda (Maust) Robinette. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 60 years Robert Earl Mognet, whom she married in 1946, her sister Mary Wright, brothers: John and George Robinette, and son-in-law Lance Howell. She is survived by her daughters Patricia Howell of Fairview, PA and Peggy (Lester) Vough of Hanover, PA; 4 grandchildren: Lisa (Kenny) Brookman, Janice (Jeff) Curtis, Brian Vough, and Sharon Vough; 4 great-granddaughters: Faith Brookman, Joy Curtis, Nicolette Brookman, and Hope Vough; and 3 great-great- grandchildren. Edna grew up on the Robinette/Maust farm in Edie and attended the one-room Maust School. A 1940 graduate of Somerset High School, Edna worked at Walker's Creamery, the General Telephone Company, Newberry's Department Store, Manor Hill Hotel, the Baer House, and the Somerset Country Club. She was also a waitress for many years at the Howard Johnson South Turnpike Restaurant, Stairs, Bittner's Curb Service, and the Coffee Shop in Somerset. She also did house cleaning, laundry, and babysitting for many families. She was a deaconess at Sipesville Church of the Brethren where over the years she taught Sunday School lessons, sang in the adult choir, lead the Junior Choir, and was the director for Vacation Bible School. She was a 4-H leader for the Roof Garden Club and a member of the Somerset Grange. She often entertained at gatherings with humorous skits and readings. Edna always enjoyed music, singing solos or in duets and quartets for special music in churches, and also played the piano and organ by ear. She helped her husband Robert find and research log cabins, covered bridges, and schoolhouses in Somerset County. Her other hobbies were doing puzzles, stamp collecting, scrapbooking, traveling, and gardening. She always enjoyed time with her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. Her family and relatives gathered for many holiday meals at the Mognet home. During her 6 years at Fairview Manor she enjoyed playing bingo (winning a large collection of stuffed animals), and participating in other activities with residents. Friends received 10:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Thursday March 28, 2019 at the Sipesville Church of the Brethren, 711 Sipesville Rd. Somerset, PA, where a service will immediately follow at 11:30 a.m. with Reverend Cecil Lohr officiating. Interment Sipesville Cemetery.
