Paul Gnagey Obituary

Paul Daniel Gnagey, 97, of Somerset formerly of Meyersdale, went to be with the Lord surrounded by his family on May 4, 2019 at UPMC Somerset Hospital. Born August 16, 1921 in Meyersdale, he is the son of Milton S. and Matilda (Bowman) Gnagey Sr. Preceded in death by his parents, wife the former Pauline Fern Cook who died April 13, 2015, daughter Linda Fike, brother Milton S. Gnagey Jr. and sisters Mary Gnagey, and Martha Yoder. Survived by his children Gary Gnagey and wife Deborah of Terre Hill, and Peggy Johnston and husband Roger of Somerset, son-in-law Homer Fike of Meyersdale, grandchildren: Matthew Fike, Kara Kroll, Sara and Corinne Johnston, William, Brian, and Eric Robertson, also 8 great-grandchildren, and his sister Ruth E. Jones of Somerset. Paul was a graduate of Meyersdale High School, he was a US Army Veteran of WWII, he worked until his retirement as owner/operator of Gnagey Oldsmobile in Meyersdale, he was a member of Meyersdale Blue Lodge, and Meyersdale Lions Club, as well as serving on various other committees and boards in Meyersdale as well as the original 219 Planning Committee. Paul was past member of Meyersdale Church of the Brethren, a member of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, Somerset, he enjoyed taking trips with his wife in their Airstream. Friends received 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Somerset, where a service will immediately follow at 11 a.m. with Reverends Tony Myers, Michael Dunlap and Dottie Grew officiating. Interment Mt. Lebanon Cemetery. Military rites accorded by the Somerset County Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Somerset Co. Honor Guard 139 W. Union St. Somerset.
