Robert P Moyer

Robert Pence Moyer, 96, of Somerset, died March 23, 2019 at The Patriot. Born November 25, 1922 in Somerset, he is the son of Haley H. and Mamie (Pence) Moyer. Preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; Harold and Charles Moyer, three sisters; Gaynelle Eisler and husband Waler, Mary Fridy and husband Donald, and Anne Ling and husband Raymond, a son; Robert Neal Moyer, and granddaughter; Jennifer Beth Thomas. Survived by his wife the former Phyllis Saylor to whom he was married 71 years, daugther; Pamela Moyer Thomas and husband Roger of Winchester, VA, son; Bradley David Moyer, two granddaughters; Laura Beth Thomas and husband Alan Broderick of Williamsburg, VA, and Kathryn Anne Thomas and husband Christopher Morales of Winchester, VA, also two great-grandsons; Preston and Logan Broderick of Williamsburg, VA. Bob was a 1940 graduate of Somerset High School, he then enlisted in the Armed Forces on Sept. 7, 1942. During WWII, he served in Italy as a gunner on a B-24 Heavy Bomber and completed over 20 missions, and was honorably discharged on October 10, 1945. On Easter Sunday March 24, 1948, he married Phyllis Saylor at the Trinity Lutheran Church, and lived in Somerset for over 96 years. After returning from WWII, he worked for the PA Department of Transportation as an equipment operation where he retired 1985. Bob was a lifelong member of Calvary United Methodist Church, where he served many offices; and loved to spend hours performing support services, maintenance, painting, supporting programs, and helping others at the church. Bob was also a life member of the Somerset Volunteer Fire Department for the past 73 years. No viewing or visitation, a private service will be conducted at a later date with Reverend Arnold McFarland officiating. Interment Somerset County Memorial Park.
