Beryl Elaine Shawley

Beryl Elaine (Schlosnagle) Shawley, 90, passed peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on Sunday January 23, 2022. Beryl was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Bernard Lee Shawley, her parents Ralph Henry Schlosnagle, Elsie Rae (Pritts) Schlosnagle, and her brother Donald Wayne Schlosnagle, as well as her two loyal companions Copper & Tinker. Beryl is survived by her loving children, daughter Arlene Rae (Shawley) DeWitt and husband Jerry "Buck" DeWitt, and son Thomas Allen Shawley & Kathi Columbus, 4 grandchildren, Jennifer (DeWitt) Barkman and husband Robby, Melissa (DeWitt) Shultz & husband Chad, Aimee Shawley & Aaron Shawley, 4 great-grandchildren Jake & Benjamin Barkman and Diem & Mila Shultz, and her faithful Dachshund, Josie. Beryl was born and raised in Somerset, PA where she was a graduate of Somerset High School Class of 1949. She started her career working at McCroy in uptown Somerset, then the Somerset Foundry, where she met her husband, later she retired from Johnstown Bank & Trust where she was a teller for many years. Beryl enjoyed making handbraided wool rugs, a pass time she picked up in 9th grade and continued throughout her life, making a total of 350 rugs scattered among the states and family & friends' homes. Beryl also enjoyed baking pies, she was the "Pie Master" according to her great-grandchildren, canning, making jelly, especially strawberry, & watching the birds and wildlife congregate at her bird feeder. She was a member of Samuel's Lutheran Church. Beryl was an incredible woman, loved by many. Friends received 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Somerset, where a service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday with Reverend Lee Gable officiating. Interment Somerset County Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to be made to the American Cancer Society Or Samuel's Lutheran Church PO Box 126 Rockwood, PA 15557.
