David Howard Koontz, 76, of Meyersdale formerly of Somerset, died February 28, 2026 at Casselman Health & Rehab. Born October 2, 1949 in Somerset, he is the son of Lloyd and Ardyth Elaine (Wiltrout) Koontz Jr. Preceded in death by his parents and sister Beverly Tressler. Survived by his sister Barbara Evans and husband Richard of Sarasota FL, and numerous nieces and nephews. David was a US Army Veteran of Vietnam,and worked as a handyman until his retirement. He was a member of the Somerset Flag Committee and was a lifetime member of the American Legion in Somerset, where he served many years as Sergeant at Arms, also as part-time Commander. David was active presenting American Legion scholarships to local schools, and he also was part of the team that started the annual Salute to Veterans Golf Outing. A celebration of life will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Saturday April 11, 2026 at the Somerset American Legion. Interment Kingwood IOOF Cemetery.
