David Michael Mankey, 82, of Fernandina Beach, FL. died October 25, 2022 in Fernandina Beach, FL. Born December 10, 1939 in Pittsburgh, he was the son of Fred and Nancy (Faranda) Mankey. Preceded in death by his parents and brother William Mankey. He is survived by his wife, the former Joy Darleen Zimmerman to whom he was married 35 years, brothers and sister: Robert Mankey (Holly), Barbara Mankey and Ted Mankey (Lorrie) of Pittsburgh, PA and his children: Andrew Mankey (Michelle) of Mars, PA and Molly Paulson of Tampa, FL, grandchildren: Madelyn Mankey and Jacob, Luke, and Zachary Paulson. David was a 1957 graduate of Avalon High School, a 1961 graduate of the Pennsylvania State University, and a 1965 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh. David was a teacher and coach in the Pittsburgh Public Schools for 39 years. He enjoyed coaching football for the Langley High School Mustangs, beginning as an Assistant Coach in 1966 and serving as Head from 1976 to 2000 where he took the team to the City Championships in 1984 and 1985. He was treasurer for the Pennsylvania Scholastic Football Coaches Association (PSFCA) from 1982 to 2004 and a member of the 2001 PSFCA Coaches Hall of Fame. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Fernandina Beach, FL. A funeral mass will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 433 W Church St, Somerset, PA with Father Angelo Patti Celebrant.
