Edna Ferne Lane, 96, of Somerset, died September 14, 2024 at UPMC Somerset Hospital. Born April 25, 1928 in Somerset, she is the daughter of Norman H. and Luella Melda (Pritts) Dickey. Preceded in death by her parents, husband Harry Curtis Lane who died January 28, 2005, and brother Earl Dickey. Survived by her sons Robert E. Lane and wife JoAnn of Rockwood, and Thomas E. Lane and wife Gloria of Somerset, grandchildren Tammy Urbain and husband Randy, Michael Lane and wife Beth, Renee Jano and husband Wesley, Ryan Lane and wife Bobbie, Julie Johnson and husband Charles, and Jeffrey Lane and wife Kayla, 15 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren. Edna was a 1946 graduate of Somerset High School, she worked until her retirement as a secretary for Penelec. She was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, who loved and cared for her family. Edna enjoyed spending weekends with her husband at the cabin, enjoyed gardening and was very good at it and would shared it with her family. She enjoyed playing the piano and organ, and for many years she did knotting and quilting at Mountain Craft Days, and her favorite past time in recent years was playing solitaire where she would often change the rules. Edna was also a member of Grace United Methodist Church. The family would like to give a special thanks to Dixie Mapes for all of her excellent care. Friends received 3-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Somerset, where a service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday with Reverend Brenda Shaffer officiating.
