George Clayton Fisher Obituary

George Clayton Fisher, 72, of Somerset, PA lost his battle to pancreatic cancer at home January 28, 2026. Born May 27, 1953 in Johnstown, PA to the late Adda (Heckman) Fisher and George Fisher, Jr., George graduated from Somerset High School in 1971. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy shortly thereafter and proudly served for over 20 years until his retirement in 1994. George was not afraid of hard work like gathering firewood. He loved hunting and camping outdoors. A collector of "treasure," George was a master tinkerer and enjoyed fixing machinery, especially cars. In "George's World" as he would say it, something always needed fixing. He saw value in used stuff. He loved music and entertained on the banjo, guitar and harmonica. "It'll Shine when it shines" by Ozark Mountain Daredevils was one of his favorite songs. His nonsensical phrases brought laughter to his family up to his final days. He always tried to leave a bit of wisdom. In his last days, "keep your head on a swivel" was one of his favorite sayings. He presented himself as one not bothered by others with a stubborn personality, but he was a big softy inside and deeply sensitive. He was always trying to give something away like flashlights, bungee cords, or some kind of gadget ultimately thinking it would make life better. Preceded in death by his brothers Paul and William "Tom," he leaves behind his lifetime companion and caregiver, Judy; children Corey (Rebecca) and Michelle (Bryan); grandchildren Max (Alexis), Jake, Adda, Rilee and Blake; and great grandson Henry. No viewing or visitation a private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment Casebeer Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Somerset Honor Guard 139 W Union St, Somerset, PA 15501. Arrangements by the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Somerset.
