Obituary

Herbert Clark Hoover, 91, of Rockwood, passed away peacefully at his home on May 20, 2020. Born October 9, 1928 in Fogletown, he is the son of George H. and Anna (Baker) Hoover. Preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Robert, George, Charles (who died in WWII in the Battle of the Bulge), Galen, and an infant; also sons-in-law: Thomas H. Roach and Dr. Igor I. Islamoff. Survived by his wife the former Avis Bernadine Sanner to whom he was married 69 years; children: Debra Harris and husband Loren, Kim Garretson all of Johnstown, and Kevin Hoover and wife Tammy of New Centerville; grandchildren: Nicole Caputa and husband Brandon, Kaleigh Thomas and husband Gene, Levi Garretson, and Taylor Hoover and fiance Adam Lytle; great-grandchildren: Asher, Archer, and Aiden Caputa, and Oliver and Violet Thomas, also sister Blanche Ohler of Bensalem. Herb was a member of St. Paul's Ridge United Church of Christ for 60 years where he held various offices, and was currently a member of Rockwood Alliance Church. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and fan of NASCAR racing. Herb loved spending time with his family and friends. He was a farmer and retired from Penn Pocahontas Coal Company. Due to current health concerns viewing and visitation will be private with Reverend Timothy Dietrich officiating. Interment Rockwood IOOF Cemetery.
