Jay William Hemminger Obituary

Jay William Hemminger, 87, of Somerset, died May 14, 2024 at Meadowview Nursing Center. Born September 29, 1936 in Somerset. He is the son of Ralph Noah and Violet Vade (Lenhart) Hemminger. Preceded in death by his parents, wife the former Myra L. "Dutch" Long; son Barry "BR" Hemminger, brothers James and Jack Hemminger; and two infant brothers. Survived by his children Debbie Koontz and husband Gary and Larry Hemminger all of Somerset; grandchildren Heather Mostoller and husband Justin, Andrew Koontz, Adam Hemminger and wife Jennifer, Brett Hemminger and wife Breezy, Drew Hemminger and wife Sarah, 8 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. Jay was a 1954 graduate of Somerset High School. He was founder and owner-operator of J&J Truck Bodies and Somerset Welding and Steel, and later founded Somerset Farmers Supply. He was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Lodge 358 F&AM, Rotary Club and Lions Club of Somerset, he was active with the Somerset County Fair, Farmers and Threshmens Jubilee, and the Chickentown Gas and Steam Show. Friends received 2-4 and 6-8 p.m Friday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Somerset, where a service will be conducted at 10 a.m Saturday with Vicar Josh Spangler officiating. Interment Somerset County Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church 3093 Glades Pike Somerset, PA 15501.
