John Dick Obituary

John Richard Dick, 78, of Somerset, passed away peacefully at home on Dec. 10, 2020. Born on July 4, 1942, in Cranston, RI, to the late Edward J. and Lillian (Whitehurst) Dick. John is survived by former wife, Gretchen Knupp, and their children: Jennifer (Dick) Hair and husband, Christopher, Rockville, MD; Elliott Dick, Cranberry Twp; and John "Johnny" Dick, Somerset. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Dahlia and Christopher Hair. John was a 1959 graduate of Rockwood High School, he was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of Vietnam, and later graduated from Cornell University. While his military service and hospitality career took him all over the world, he eventually settled in Somerset—his true home. He was an avid Somerset sports fan and proudly attended the countless soccer, basketball, and football games of his children, plus many more even after their graduation. John spent most mornings at MorGainz Fitness (formerly Precision) jovially drinking coffee with friends and, if time permitted, exercising too. John loved picnicking at Laurel Hill Lake, sharing a good joke, grooving to 50s & 60s Oldies music, and catching up with his kids and grandkids over a Summit Diner breakfast. Most of all, he loved being in the company of his family. John was a proud father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. A private graveside service will be held for the family at Somerset County Memorial Park, with Pastor Doug Knupp of Trinity Lutheran Church in Somerset. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Somerset Honor Guard 139 W. Union St. Somerset, PA 15501. Arrangements by the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Somerset.
