John H. Strandquest, 75, of Clermont, FL (formerly of Somerset), passed away peacefully on October 7, 2025 surrounded by his family at Cornerstone Hospice House after a long difficult illness. Born July 28, 1950, he is the son of the late Theodore E. and Carrie J. (Gindlesperger) Strandquest. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Carl T. Strandquest, and beloved wife Carolyn (Ogline). John is survived by his wife of 12 years Susan, son Ryan (Kathy) Strandquest of Casselbury FL, daughters: Allison Carey (Clermont, FL) and Jenna (Jimmy) NeSmith of Eustis, FL, sisters: Sally K. Strandquest and Leslie (Scott) Bowman, granddaughters that he adored and gave him the name "Papa"- Nikole, Kendall, and Addyson, and grandson David (Charlotte) Sheppard. He was privileged to have numerous nieces and nephews and greats- and his special niece and nephew Leslie Anne (Mark) Scalzo of Mt. Pleasant and Michael (Lori) Strandquest of Phoenix, AZ. John was the ultimate professional. He began his career in accounting at M.F. Fetterolf Coal Co. He became the general manager of the Ramada Inn in Somerset, then at the Pittsburgh Airport. He and Carolyn relocated their family to Orlando, FL. in 1984 and he began his second career with SunTrust Bank, retiring after 32 years as Senior Vice President. John was also an adjunct instructor at Valencia College and Corporate Trainer at FBC Mortgage, LLC. John loved his family, entertaining with good food, martinis with blue cheese stuffed olives, traveling to Europe and Australia (just to name a few), but most of all he loved cooking! He always said his greatest joy was preparing a feast for his kids and grandkids. John was a man of great faith. He was an amazing father and Papa to his grandkids, and more than a brother to his sister Sally- her mentor and best friend. He was loved and respected by many. His memorial service will be held on Monday, Oct 13, 2025 at Trinity Lutheran Church 123 East Livingston St, Orlando, FL. John's graveside service will be held Friday, Oct. 17, 2025 at 11 am at Somerset County Memorial Park with Vector Josh Spangler officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in John's name to Calvary Lutheran Church, 3093 Glades Pike, Somerset, PA 15501 or to Cornerstone Hospice Foundation, 2445 Lane Park Rd, Tavares, FL 32778.
