Lois Brougher Obituary

Lois (Lape) Brougher, 93, of Johnstown formerly of Somerset, passed away January 24, 2022 at Arbutus Park Manor in Johnstown, Pa. She was born December 6, 1928 in Jenner Township, Pa., the daughter of Augustus Otto and Mary Virginia (McAvoy) Lape. Lois was preceded in death by her parents, beloved & husband of 68 years, J. Robert Brougher, who passed away in 2017, brothers Charles Lape, Ralph Lape and wife Betty, Foster Lape and wife Kathryn, and John William Lape, and sisters Alma Lundquest (Oscar), Edna Roddy (John), Maxine Baker (Norbert), and Doris Troyer (David.). She is survived by daughter Susan Centi (John), and much loved grandchildren Claire Guzman and husband Luis, Brennan Centi and special friend Devon Ann Christman, and Gordon Centi and wife Breanna, along with great-grandchildren Luis Robert and Mateo John Guzman. She is also survived by; sisters-in-law Ruth Lape and Lana Brougher and many special nieces and nephews. Lois was a 1946 graduate of Jenner Boswell Joint High School, and a 1947 graduate of the Johnstown Beauty Academy. She worked for 39 years in the Somerset County Treasurer's Office, serving three terms as County Treasurer before her retirement in 1988. Following her career in county government, Lois and her husband babysat their grandchildren, providing many happy childhood memories for them. Volunteering in the community was important to Lois, and she enjoyed serving on the Altar Guild at Trinity Lutheran Church, and on the Mountain Craft Days committee at the Somerset Historical Center. She was active in civic organizations and in the Republican Party during her years at the Court House. Lois was very proud to be a "farm girl", having been raised on a dairy farm, and she enjoyed nothing more than gathering with her large extended family for holidays, picnics, and vacations. She enjoyed hosting guests and entertaining friends and relatives with her delicious cooking and baking, and will be fondly remembered for her grape pie, spaghetti and meatballs, and barbecued spare ribs. She enjoyed many years in the football stands watching her husband's teams compete, and many years cheering on her grandchildren in their sporting events and school activities. Friends will be received Thursday, January 27th from 3-5 p.m. at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Somerset, and Friday from 10 am until time of funeral service at 11 a.m. at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 918 Tayman Avenue in Somerset, with Reverend Ruth Jensen officiating. Interment at Somerset Memorial Park following service. In lieu of flowers, family suggests contributions in memory of Lois be directed to The Alzheimer's Association, 2835 E.
