Lois D Young Obituary

Lois D. Young passed away on March 19th, 2025 six days before her 100th birthday. Lois was born on March 25, 1925, in Oreminea, Williamsburg, PA, to the late Chester and Della (Zimmerman) Deter. On June 1st, 1946, she married R. Lynn Young, who passed away on February 7, 1987.

Lois was preceded in death by her children, R. Dwayne Young (Sherie) and Cheri L. Young. She is survived by her son, Roger D. Young & (Debra) of Murrysville, PA; her grandchildren, Marina Oliver, Daniel Young, Matthew Young, Heather Wilt (Erik), Lucinda Bull (David) Ashley Baldwin (Carson); and her great-grandchildren, Tanner Young, Emma Beltowski, Ella Grace Wilt, Alexander Bull, Garrett, and Bennett Baldwin. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Jay Deter.

During the last years of Lois's life, she needed a primary caregiver. Thankfully, Lois and her family found Annie Mae Matkoskey, who not only filled that role but also became an integral part of the family. Over the years, Annie Mae has shared many cherished moments with Lois, including day trips with "the girls" to visit family and friends and enjoy a good meal and each others company. Their favorite daily event included a game or two of scrabble. (Grammy won most).

Lois graduated with honors from Williamsburg High School in 1943. During World War II, she worked at the CAA, Commerce Department, in Washington, DC. Later, she was employed by Penn State University, West Virginia Pulp and Paper Co., and Neilan Engineering.

A dedicated member of Calvary United Methodist Church since April 1955, Lois taught Sunday school, served as president of the United Methodist Women, and worked as a literacy teacher. She also sang in the choir for 50 years and served as the church's financial secretary for 20 years.

Lois loved the Lord, her family, and her church family, who were all so good to her. She found great joy in reading.

Friends received 9-10 a.m at at Calvary Church of Somerset (formerly Calvary United Methodist Church) on Saturday, March 22, 2025, where a service will immediately follow at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Arnie McFarland will officiate. Her grandson, Matthew D. Young, will be the organist.
