Marlin Carl Sherbine Obituary

Marlin C. Sherbine, 91 of Somerset, PA passed into our Lord's loving arms on June 9, 2025 in Somerset. Marlin was born on August 13, 1933 in Johnstown, PA, graduated from Beaverdale High School, and Shippensburg State College. He is preceded in death by his parents Carl and Anna Sherbine, brother Dr. David Sherbine, Janet L Sherbine , wife of over 60 years , and very recently, Teresa Sherbine, wife of 7 years.

Surviving family members include brother Dr. K Bruce Sherbine of Clarks Summitt, children Karl (Ramona) of Somerset, Kelly (Terry) McMahan of Leander, TX, and Kirk (Heather) of Somerset; grandchildren Evan Sherbine (Anne) of Cedar Park, TX, Brian Sherbine (Kat) of Morgantown WV, Casey McMahan (Mary Carlisle) of New Bern, NC, Zachary Sherbine (Melanie) of Somerset, Tyler Sherbine (Samantha) of Lynchburg, VA, Carter McMahan (Brittney) of Katy, TX, Becca Saylor, Deacon Sherbine of Somerset and five great grandchildren.

Marlin's careers included steel mill worker, teacher, accountant, coal operator, and most proudly, farmer in his retirement years operating his beloved Highland Farms until the day of his death. For most of his career, he worked for Martin Marietta and Fry Coal and Stone in Mercersburg, then serving as President of PBS Coals in Somerset . He was a lifelong community servant on the national, state and local levels in many organizations including Coal Mining Associations, Beef Producers, PA Farm Bureau, Belted Galloway Society, Rotary Club, Somerset Co Soil Conservation, Somerset Co Hospital Authority and Board of View, Somerset Trust Co, and St Paul's Presbyterian Church of Somerset, to name a few.

Those who knew Marlin had no doubt about his passions, which were reading (he was a certified speed reader, if there is such a thing), story telling, hunting, farming, sports (especially Somerset Co sports), and anything that his grandchildren were involved in. It is an unofficial fact that he and Janet logged more bleacher time watching James Buchanan HS, and Somerset HS sports than had ever been recorded, at times being the ONLY fans making the trip to remote locations.

Marlin, known as Dad or Pap, will be deeply missed by his family and his community. He will be forever remembered for his kindness, generosity, story telling, love for people and nature, and servant's heart.

Friends received 10- 11 a.m. Saturday June 21, 2025 at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, Somerset, where a Celebration of Life Service will immediately follow at 11 a.m. Interment Husband Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions to St Paul's Presbyterian Church, Somerset Rotary Club or Somerset High School Football Boosters in Marlin's honor are requested.
