Merle Wayne Weyand

Merle Wayne Weyand, 93, of Somerset, formerly of Rockwood, died August 27, 2020 at his home. Born May 22, 1927 in Jefferson Township, he is the son of Fran klin R. and Stella M. (Shaulis) Weyand. Preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Clark and Elmer Weyand, and sisters: Rose Weyand, Fern Simpson, and Ruth Livengood. Survived by his wife the former Marie Evelyn Lape to whom he was married 69 years, daughters: Connie Crowley and husband James of Somerset, Cathy Popovich and husband Samuel of Berlin,and Carol Chrise and husband Allen of Somerset, grandchildren: Michelle Karasek and husband Chris, Samuel Popovich Jr., Sara Baker and husband Jonathan, Elizabeth Smouse and husband Kirk, also great-grandchildren: Kayla, Melanie, and Ava. Merle was a 1945 graduate of Rockwood High School, he worked as a farmer from 1948-1969, and later as a shipper/driver for Green Garden Inc. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, and the Sugarbush Antique Car Club. The family would like to give a special thanks to Merle's caregivers, Heartland Hospice, and his neighbors and friends. Friends received 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home, Somerset. Services will be private on Monday with Reverend Lee Gable officiating. Interment Somerset County Memorial Park.
