Nelson Jay Scheffel

Nelson Jay Scheffel, 62, of Somerset PA, went to his eternal home in heaven where he met his Heavenly Father on September 28th, 2021 at Passavant Hospital in Pittsburgh. Nelson was born September 28, 1959 in Meyersdale, PA.  He is the son of Jonas C. and Ruth (Lichty) Scheffel of Somerset. Proceeded in death by sister Carolyn Louise Scheffel, grandparents Lee and Annie Scheffel and Dan and Vernie Lichty. Nelson is survived by his loving wife the former Lori Lee Putman to who he was married of 40 years. Son Kyle Zachary Scheffel married to the former Sarah Stockslager and expected grandson in October. Siblings Lois Pletcher, Linda Galico and husband Jim , Ken Scheffel and wife Shannon, Dennis Scheffel and wife Debbie, Loretta Lindstrom and husband Brett, and Karen Lorraine Barron and husband Mark, he was also loved by many nieces and nephews. Nelson was a 1978 graduate of Somerset High School. Nelson enjoyed working on the family farm through 1989 when his family started a farm equipment business. Then in 2016 he joined his siblings in forming Scheffels, Inc. to continue to serve the agricultural community. One of the things that he enjoyed most about the equipment business was being able to share his love of the Lord and his family with his customers. Nelson enjoyed studying the Bible, hunting and fishing. Spending time on drives and taking walks with Lori. Spending time with his son Kyle and daughter in law Sarah and family. He loved attending Listie Grace Brethren Church and loved his church family. Family will receive friends on Thursday September 30th from 2-4 and 6-8 at Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Somerset, and 9-10 a.m. Friday, October 1st at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, Somerset where a celebration service will immediately follow at 10 a.m. with Pastor Christopher Knight officiating.
