Richard L. Poorbaugh, 89, of Somerset, died July 15, 2023 at his home. Born January 2, 1934 in Berlin, he is the son of Freeman Wilson and Mary L. (Miller) Poorbaugh. Preceded in death by his parents, wife the former Catherine Kay O'Dell,, brothers: Donald and William Poorbaugh, sisters: Betty Smith and Peggy "Kate" Bowser, an infant brother Robert, and step-son Steven Berkebile. Survived by his step-children: Patrcia K. Mellen of Columbia, SC., and Cloyd Guy Berkebile and wife Jodi of Indian Lake, also numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren, and sister Beverly Ashby of Texas. Richard was a 1951 graduate of Berlin Brothersvalley High School, a US Navy Veteran of Korea. He worked until his retirement as Vice President for Somerset Trust Company, he attended St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, was a member of Meyersdale Lodge F&AM, Altoona Consistory, Jaffa Shrine, and Cambria Counsel and Oriental Commandery. Richard was also a member of the Somerset and Berlin Historical Societies, Mountain Field and Stream Club, NRA, North American Hunting Club, and was a longtime blood donor with the American Red Cross. No viewing or visitation. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Somerset County Memorial Park with Pastor Michael Dunlap officiating.
