Ruth Scheffel

Ruth Scheffel, age 91, received perfect healing when she passed into the arms of her Savior, Jesus, on March 2, 2023 at her home. She was born April 30,1931, to Daniel and Vernie (Hershberger) Lichty in Oakland, Maryland. Preceded in death by her infant sister, infant daughter Carolyn Louise, son Nelson, and daughter-in-law Lisa. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Jonas, and children Lois Pletcher, Linda (James) Galico, Kenneth (Shannon), Dennis (Debbie), daughter-in-law Lori Scheffel, Loretta (Brett) Lindstrom, and Lorraine (Mark) Barron. Also, grandchildren Lisa, Greg, Ben, Brandon, Jessi, Dan, Jaden, Mady, Carson, Laurie, Leah, Kyle, Sharayah, Hannah, Cayton, Jeremy, and 22 great-grandchildren. Also survived by her brother Ralph (Maryellen) of Goshen, Indiana. She also loved being 'mom' to long-time Fresh Air Children Tanisha and Eileen. In addition to being an amazing mother and homemaker, she spent a lifetime babysitting various children in her home and loved sharing her love of Jesus with them. She was an active member of Somerset Christian and Missionary Alliance Church for over 50 years. She taught Sunday School, Awana, helped coordinate the church library, and was active in women's ministries, including quilting for missionaries. Through the last several years as we have watched Mom's health decline, we have been blessed to see her beautiful sense of humor shine through. We will always cherish these memories and they will always make us smile. The family cannot thank all of the home health care workers enough who have supported us for the past several years. Your care and compassion has been a true blessing. Friends and family will be received from 1 to 3pm on Sunday, March 5, 2023 , at Somerset Alliance Church, Somerset where a funeral service will immediately follow at 3pm with Reverends Dr. Scott Ream and Donald Robson officiating.
