Sarah "Sally" Elizabeth Svonavec

Sarah "Sally" Elizabeth Svonavec, 79, of Somerset, died peacefully with her family by her side on July 16, 2021 at her home.  Born March 21, 1942 in Somerset, she is the daughter of Edward M. and Ruth E. (Raley) Shaffer.  Preceded in death by her parents, brothers; Richard "Dick" and Paul William "Bill" Shaffer, and sister Evelyn "Sis" Shaffer.  Survived by her husband John "Jim" Svonavec to whom she was married 58 years, children; Lisa Maurer and husband Matthew of Hollsopple, Lori Laczynski and husband David of Fort Meyers, FL, Lynn Pavlock and husband Joseph of Sykesville, MD, and James Svonavec and wife Tara of Somerset, grandchildren; Adam, Jacob, Megan, Emily, Sarah, Luke, Caleb, David, Ryan, Nathan, Samuel, Collin, Travis, Payton, Joshua, Ethan, Isaac, and Olivia, and 15 great-grandchildren; also brothers and sisters; Robert Shaffer of Somerset, Ruth Ann Sarver and husband Ed of Somerset, Charles Shaffer and wife Maggie of Myrtle Beach, Debbie Wolf, and Gary Shaffer and wife Karen all of Somerset. Sally was a 1960 graduate of Somerset High School, earlier in life she worked as a law clerk for Fike Cascio & Boose, and later as business office manager for J&J Svonavec Excavating, where she retired, but what she cherished most  was her faith and family.  Sally was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, and played an integral role in founding the Birthright of Somerset.  She enjoyed traveling, cooking, sewing, and was most known for welcoming others into her home.  The family would also like to thank Heartland Hospice as well as all the private care workers who provided passionate care for their beloved mother.  Friends received 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Somerset, a funeral mass will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Somerset, with Father Angelo Patti Celebrant.  Committal Listie Catholic Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Birthright of Somerset 238 W.
