William Stanley McDonald, 83, of Archdale, NC, died August 9, 2025 at Atrium Health Wake Forest Medical Center. Born July 14, 1942 in Cleveland, OH at the McDonald House. He is the son of Stanley George and Helen (Jelenic) McDonald. Preceded in death by his parents, step-mother Clyde Faulk, sisters Patricia and Jeannette, and half-brother Eli Poljak Jr. Survived by his wife the former Shirley Marie Faidley to whom he was married 61 1/2 years and were married in the Chapel at Windemere Methodist Church in Cleveland, OH. Sons Michael and wife Sharon, and Christopher, grandchildren Michael, Stephanie, Delaney, and Cameron, great-grandchildren Antonina, Olivia, Baylee, Shane, and Faye, and nieces Shari, Katherine, and Cindy. William was a US Navy Veteran and served on the USS Lake Champlain as a gunners mate (GMG3). He worked for Gould Oceans Systems in developing the Marc 48 torpedo. Taught school at Cape Canaveral in Florida. He worked for Hubbell Industrial l Pl Controls as Electrical-Mechanical Specialist in Research & Development, where he developed push button control. His hobbies were golfing, playing guitar, fishing, and carpentry. He was a devoted husband and father. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Friends received 9-11 a.m. Friday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Somerset, where a service will immediately follow at 11 a.m. with Reverend John Barichivich officiating.
