Richard E. Hauger (1922-2014)
Richard E. Hauger, 92, of Somerset, died Sunday, July 20, 2014 at the In-Touch Hospice House, Somerset. Born Feb. 19, 1922, son of the late Charles R. and Mary (Manges) Hauger. Also preceded in death by wife, Luella (Woodrow) Hauger, son Karl and brother Jay. Survived by children: Jane Zeigler, married to the late Edward Zeigler, Nashville, Tennessee; Mary Ann, married to S. William Riggs, Friedens; Craig Hauger, Somerset, and David, married to Cindy Pucci, Somerset. Also survived by brothers Ray and wife Thelma, Friedens, and Jim and wife Loretta, Somerset; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Member and past president of Somerset Rotary; Lodge 358 F&AM; Pittsburgh Consistory; Jaffa Shrine and the Last Man’s Club, Berlin. A 1939 graduate of Somerset Area High School; a graduate of Eckles College of Mortuary Science in Philadelphia, and also attended the University of Illinois and Duff’s Business Institute, Pittsburgh. Richard was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II where he served in the European theater. He was the owner and operator of the Hauger Funeral Home until he retired in 1986. In his retirement years, he continued hunting, fishing, precision target shooting, wood carving, many trips on his Honda Goldwing and spending time with his beloved wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of the First Christian Church and also attended the Church of Christ, Somerset. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home where services will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. with the Reverend Roger Forry officiating. Interment in the Husband Cemetery with military rites accorded by the Somerset County Honor Guard. Masonic services will be conducted at the funeral home at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Contributions may be made to Meals-On-Wheels or the In-Touch Hospice House, Somerset.
