Rosemary Cecelia (Doherty) Jordan (1923-2011)
Rosemary Cecelia (Doherty) Jordan, 88, Somerset, died May 7, 2011, at The Patriot, Somerset. Born April 6, 1923, in Somerset, daughter of Patrick Joseph and Mary Catherine (Myers) Doherty. Preceded in death by parents; husband James Thomas Jordan Sr., who died in 1963; sisters, Sara Ann and Patricia Josephine Doherty. Survived by son James T. Jordan Jr., married to the former Susan Bartlett, Somerset; sisters and brothers: Teresa Jane Doherty, Rockville, Md.; Martha Jean Dowd, St. Petersburg Beach, Fla.; John Patrick Doherty and wife Kristen, Silver Springs, Md.; Charles Michael Doherty and wife Pat, Canoga Park, Calif.; and James Thomas Doherty and wife Elizabeth, Chantilly, Va.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Rosemary is a 1940 graduate of Somerset High School, the Duquesne School of Nursing and received her master’s from the University of Pennsylvania. She was an Army nurse serving in World War II and the Korea War. Also a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, American Legion Post 181, she was a former head of “Get Set” Program in Philadelphia. Also member of Philadelphia School district retirement association. She also worked at Doherty Hardware where she truly enjoyed conversations with the customers. She was also dedicated to her faith, country, husband, mother, store and mostly to her loving son, Jim. Vigil for the deceased at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home, Somerset. Friends received 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Funeral Mass will be conducted 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Somerset. Monsignor Samuel J. Tomaselli, Celebrant. Committal St. Vincent’s Cemetery, Latrobe. Contributions may be made to St. Peter’s Catholic School, 433 W. Church St., Somerset, PA 15501. Military rites accorded by the Somerset County Honor Guard.
